Gioia del Colle
Gioia del Colle is a small town in the heart of Puglia, situated on the hills of the Murgia,
located about not far from the cities of Bari and Taranto, between the Ionian and Adriatic seas.
Because of its strategic position, it has been a popular place for settlers over the centuries as is evident with the historical monuments still in place today.
It is a town saturated in history therefore, from the ancient civilization of the Peucezis, to the Norman Swabian castle of Frederick II; from the monument of the martyrs for the liberty
during the unity of Italy to the the architectural works built by the fascism.
The town counts 12 churches and the ancient ones situated in the historical centre have fascinating characteristics and interesting anecdotes to be told. Among these are the convent where the first plant of Primitivo was selected. Wander through the streets and alleys and see the artistic sculptures belonging to the popular culture.
